10 years Nuremberg-Barcelona
Vueling increases passenger numbers by a factor of five
What began with around 10,000 passengers in 2012 has developed into a success story with around 53,000 passengers in 2022: The Spanish airline flies to Barcelona up to six times a week. In total, around 360,000 travellers have used the non-stop connection to the Catalan metropolis in the last ten years - and the trend is still rising. This makes Barcelona to one of the favourite destinations in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg.
While in 2013 more than half of the passengers departing from Nuremberg to Barcelona used a connecting flight, in 2022 more than 90 per cent of the passengers will fly on Vueling's non-stop route - which saves resources.
There is probably no other European metropolis with such a broad mix of sightseeing, shopping, culinary highlights, beach and relaxation as Barcelona. No one can get past world-famous sights such as Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Família, and the heart of Catalonia has even more to offer: Europe's largest football stadium Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona.
In the meantime, the cultural and economic metropolis on Spain's east coast is also used as a hub to other domestic destinations that Vueling flies to from Barcelona, including the capital Madrid.
About Vueling
Vueling, which forms part of IAG, keeps Spain connected as the largest domestic market in Europe, making it an influential company for economic and tourism developments. As of 2022/2023, the company has a network of more than 245 short and medium haul routes across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Last June, Vueling operated a flight between Barcelona and Lyon managing to reduce CO2 emissions by 72%. This historic milestone was achieved thanks to the sustainable fuel produced by Repsol from waste and the flight following a trajectory as straight as possible thanks to the coordination with ALBATROSS. It was made possible by an initiative of the Single European Sky and the efficiency provided by the new generation Airbus A320neo.
Vueling, which was the first low-cost airline in the world to obtain the IATA environmental certificate, has 25 new-generation A320neo aircraft in its fleet that reduce carbon emissions by 18%.
