FAQ on Security Screening with CT Scanners

Do I still need to remove liquids from my hand luggage?

No. Liquids and gels can remain in your hand luggage during the security check.

Does the 100 ml rule for liquids still apply?

No. The previous maximum limit of 100 ml per container no longer applies. Liquids in leak-proof containers with a capacity of up to 2 liters may be carried.

Is there a limit on the number of liquids and gels in hand luggage?

No. There is no limit on the number of liquids and gels in hand luggage. The hand luggage regulations of your respective airline (size and dimensions of the bag) still apply.

Do liquids still need to be packed in a transparent 1-liter bag?

No. Liquids and gels no longer need to be transported in a transparent 1-liter plastic bag.

What about electronic devices such as laptops or tablets?

Electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops can also remain in your hand luggage and do not need to be placed separately.

Can drinks in coffee-to-go cups be taken through the security check?

No. Liquids in non-leak-proof containers, such as coffee-to-go cups, cannot be screened by the CT scanners and will therefore be rejected.

Will the new technology make the security check faster?

Yes. Each screening lane is equipped with multiple loading positions for trays. This allows passengers who take less time to overtake others, helping to reduce overall waiting times.

What is changing?

How the screening process works:

Travelling with animals

Animals are transported as excess baggage. All information regarding the transport of animals can be obtained from your airline.

For travel with pets – especially when traveling abroad and re-entering Germany – clear legal requirements apply. Please make sure to inform yourself well in advance of departure to avoid quarantine, return of the animal, or high follow-up costs.

Requirements for re-entry into Germany

The following rules apply to dogs, cats, and ferrets:

  • Microchip identification
  • EU pet passport
  • Rabies vaccination: only valid if administered after microchipping and at least 21 days before departure; booster vaccinations are valid until the expiry date stated in the passport
  • Travel is only permitted from the age of 15 weeks
  • Rabies antibody (titer) test (for non-listed third countries): blood sample taken no earlier than 30 days after vaccination; the result must be recorded in the EU pet passport

Important: If these requirements are not met, the animal may face quarantine, return to the country of origin, or in the worst case, euthanasia. Please check the requirements at an early stage.

Special Information for Birds

Due to the current animal disease situation, traveling with birds is only possible with considerable effort.
