Further strengthening for the airport location

New cargo centre at the airport

The third Cargo Centre (CCN 3) at Nuremberg Airport has been given the green light! GOLDBECK Ost GmbH, which previously constructed the P4 car park, has been contracted for the construction project. The main user will be CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH.

The new logistics warehouse is being built near the airport roundabout, so it will be one of the first building you see when driving to the airport. The warehouse is scheduled to open at the end of 2027. CCN 3 will comprise a warehouse spanning around 4,600 square metres and an office area of approximately 1,600 square metres.

To meet urban planning requirements, the design is a rectangular structure with a height of eleven metres. The facade will be fitted with colour-coded sandwich panels to distinguish between the office and logistics areas. The southern courtyard will have ten truck loading bridges and the northern courtyard will have four freight gates.

Reliable partnerships

‘Cargo Centre 3 will further strengthen the airport's position as a logistics hub and expand it in line with demand,” says airport CEO Dr Michael Hupe. ‘In CHI, we have found a strong and reliable partner for the future.’ Dr Hupe also expects good cooperation and competent solutions from the project's general contractor, GOLDBECK.

GOLDBECK Regional Manager Ringo Haritz says: "We are delighted to once again be part of a forward-looking project at Nuremberg Airport. With CCN 3, we are creating a functional and architecturally appealing building that is precisely tailored to the needs of the logistics industry. Thanks to our serial construction method, we can guarantee high-quality construction in a short timeframe, as well as cost-effective implementation for our client.'

Gitta Mir-Ali, Head of Real Estate and Legal Affairs, is delighted: ‘Cargo Centre 3 and the long-term lease to CHI NUE Cargo Handling GmbH further strengthen the partnership between Nuremberg Airport and the CHI Group.’ Umut Kapsir, Managing Director of CHI-NUE Cargo Handling GmbH, adds: ‘The CHI Group has its headquarters at Frankfurt Airport and already manages a storage area of approximately 8,000 square metres at Nuremberg Airport. We are delighted that Cargo Centre 3 will give us the opportunity to continue growing at the NUE location.’

Many years of experience in air freight

Nuremberg Airport has developed into an important logistics location over the decades. A significant milestone was reached in 1987 with the opening of the first Cargo Centre (CCN 1). Growing demand led to the opening of CCN 2 in 2003, which doubled the site's logistics and office space. Today, around 85,000 tonnes of air freight are handled annually via the two existing cargo centres at Nuremberg Airport. The location has thus established itself as a stable and reliable logistics hub.

The ongoing growth of the logistics sector ensures consistently high demand for additional space. To meet this demand, the expansion of the cargo area is now underway with the construction of CCN 3. This is being made possible by the demolition of an inactive LSG Group catering building.
