Stress-free through security

Nuremberg Airport introduces new CT scanners

The modernised passenger security checkpoint at Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg was officially opened during a ceremonial launch event. Amongst others, the event was attended by, Christian Bernreiter, Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport; Dr Kerstin Engelhardt-Blum, District President of Middle Franconia; Andreas Krieglstein, Deputy Mayor of the City of Nuremberg; and Jan C. Bruns, the airport’s COO.

The security checkpoint has been gradually refurbished over the past few months. The switch to CT technology brings the following changes:

  • Liquids, gels and electronic devices (such as smartphones, tablets or laptops) may remain in hand luggage during security screening.
  • There is no upper limit on the number of liquids and gels that may be carried in hand luggage. The respective airline’s regulations regarding the dimensions and size of hand luggage items naturally continue to apply.
  • The previous 100 ml limit for liquids and gels no longer applies; liquids in leak-proof containers with a capacity of up to 2 litres may be taken through security.
  • Liquids and gels no longer need to be packed in transparent 1-litre plastic bags.
  • Liquids in takeaway coffee cups or similar non-spill-proof containers CANNOT be screened by the CT scanners and will therefore be rejected.

Another benefit for travellers: each screening lane has several storage areas for placing jackets, bags, etc. on the conveyor belts. This allows passengers who need more time to be ‘overtaken’, which in turn reduces waiting times.

Thanks to the new CT scanners, hand luggage can be scanned from all angles – meaning that laptops and other electronic devices, as well as liquids up to 2 litres, no longer need to be removed from their bags.
