Nuremberg Airport expects particularly high passenger volumes during the Bavarian Christmas holidays. From December 19, 2025, to January 6, 2026, around 162,800 passengers are expected at Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg – 18 percent more than in the previous year (2024: 137,800 passengers). A total of 1,233 takeoffs and landings are planned.
“The Christmas holidays are traditionally one of the busiest times of the year for travel. The fact that we are once again recording a significant increase shows how much people want to go on vacation and how much they look forward to seeing family and friends again,” says Managing Director Dr. Michael Hupe.
Sun destinations on the Red Sea and in the Mediterranean region are particularly popular, as are European cities. The frontrunner is Hurghada in Egypt with more than 14,300 passengers, followed by the major hubs of Frankfurt with more than 10,500 and Amsterdam with around 10,400 passengers. London Stansted is also very popular with 9,400 passengers. The Turkish airports Istanbul and Sabiha Gökçen are also heavily frequented, each with around 9,000 passengers. Among the classic holiday destinations, Palma de Mallorca with 8,800 and Antalya with 7,500 travelers are far ahead.
The busiest day is expected to be December 20, 2025, when around 12,000 passengers will use Nuremberg Airport.
Passengers should allow sufficient time for travel and security checks. It is recommended to be at the airport two hours before departure. Those who want to pass the time after the security check can visit the new You Are Here Nuremberg area, which offers classic duty-free products and local specialties, including snacks, or stop by the Marché Sandwich Manufaktur. The Nuremberg Store and the Book and Press shop also provide inspiration.
