Summer, Sun, Passenger Record!

Never before have so many holidaymakers flown from Nuremberg Airport

What a summer! During this year’s summer holidays, Nuremberg Airport reached a new milestone: around 786,000 passengers took off during the six-week vacation period – more than ever before in the airport’s 70-year history and 9.2 percent more than the previous year.

“For many, it’s the best time of the year – and that was clearly felt here,” says airport managing director Dr. Michael Hupe. “The selection of over 60 nonstop destinations from Nuremberg is a stroke of luck for travel enthusiasts and those seeking relaxation, and it was used more than ever. And the fact that everything ran so smoothly is thanks above all to our dedicated employees, who worked tirelessly to ensure our passengers could start their holidays relaxed.”

Antalya remains the top destination, closely followed by Mallorca. Greece was also especially popular this year – with classics like Crete and Rhodes, as well as the new destination Kavala. In total, over 7,700 take-offs and landings were recorded – a constant flow of travelers heading toward sun, beach, and sea.

August 25 stood out in particular: with around 20,800 passengers, it was the busiest travel day of the summer.

Behind the scenes, airport staff delivered a masterful performance. Whether at check-in, aircraft cleaning, or the duty-free shop – the Team Airport ensured smooth operations every day. For example, in baggage handling: around 480,000 suitcases, bags, and backpacks were loaded – up to seven tons per holiday flight.
