Airport Nürnberg Presents Price-Sensitive Passengers a New Offer with Ryanair

Press release no. 06/2012
With the start of the summer flight schedule in March 2013 Airport Nürnberg will welcome another new airline. The Irish carrier Ryanair will take passengers to six attractive nonstop destinations in Europe, thus complementing Airport Nürnberg’s low cost segment. `Our existing portfolio of a stable regular route network and broad holiday range will be enlarged by this new offer, especially for particularly price-sensitive customers,´ the airport’s Managing Director Karl-Heinz Krüger explains.

Starting with the summer flight schedule 2013 Ryanair will be servicing the destinations London-Stansted, Pisa, Alicante, Malaga, Porto and Cagliari on Sardinia several times a week at favorable fares, Stansted, in fact, on a daily basis. During the first six months 190,000 passengers are anticipated on these routes. The new destinations will be interesting for short private city trips but also for holiday travelling.

With Ryanair entering the market, the airport is expanding another business area: low cost offers primarily address a group of customers who have used other airports for their travels so far and are now to be won over as passengers for Nuremberg. These customers are considered very price-sensitive, are prepared to do without additional services and accept longer travel times, thus increasing the airport’s catchment area.

Besides enhancing the flight schedule for travellers from Nuremberg, Managing Director Krüger also sees a tourist potential for Franconia with visitors from other European countries.

Ryanair with its headquarters in Dublin and 50 bases throughout Europe is Europe’s leading low-cost airline. It is a member of the European Low Fares Airline Association and the biggest airline in Europe with about 76 million passengers in 2011.
