Airport Business Center: ‚Yes’ to Consortium of Bidders

A decision has been reached regarding the bids for the planned Airport Business Center: Together with the ZBI Investors and Christ Architects ConTech GmbH from Nuremberg will build the new hotel with conference rooms and offices at the airport roundabout. Several notable hotel chains have applied as operators. ‘This takes us one crucial step closer toward turning Airport Nürnberg into an international meeting point for the metropolitan region of Nuremberg,’ the Airport’s Managing Director Karl-Heinz Krüger says.
Krüger: ‘The Airport Business Center is part of a comprehensive strategy to establish the airport even more firmly as a location for international conferences, meetings and events and to create even more attractive offers for visitors.’ The Airport Business Center will include a second high-class hotel with additional conference capacities of up to 1,000 square meters. Additional office space will be created. Plans also include a high-quality gastronomic offer.
The decision in favor of ConTech GmbH meant the conclusion of a previous tender which included five groups of bidders. One condition for the bid was a one-stop solution comprising investment, development, planning and operation. The assessment criteria besides architectural plans included a presentation of the commercial aims and operative concepts for the center. The architecture of the bids submitted were discussed and evaluated by the extended committee on construction and planning of the supervisory board involving the city’s construction officer as well as other experts. The designs by all bidder consortia and the top-ranking bidder were then introduced to the supervisory board, which agreed to the decision. The supervisory board has authorized management to enter into more concrete negotiations and to work out the agreements in detail. Once the negotiations have been concluded, details will be presented at a press conference.
In order to realize the project ConTech GmbH will be working together with ZBI Investors, architect Christ and the eventual hotel operator. ‘With ConTech and its partners we have won a well-reputed and experienced regional bidder who has been and continues to be involved in large-scale projects such as the thermal spa and water park Fürthermare as well as projects by adidas AG, among others.’
